For example, if you typically use L.3.1.f for the first Skill (SLE) in 3rd Grade - Language, then you can use this tool to easily identify the standard you want to find.

We provide you with several quick and easy ways to find and attach both State and National/Common Core Standards.

The Standards Tree shows you every standard broken down by strand/domain or by grade level. Teachers use the Standards Tree when they want to look at all the standards for a specific subject/strand/domain. To search in the Tree, just click the "+" next to the standards you would like to see.

The Keyword Search allows you to search for a specific standard by searching for a word within the standard. Teachers use the Keyword Search when planning across the curriculum, by unit, or if they would like to see the progression of how the standard progresses through grade levels. To search in Keyword, just type in the word you want to find in the standards.

My Lesson Planner allows you to choose how you see your standards if your state standards are leveled and broken down by grade and subject. For example, if you only teach English in grades 9-12, you can lock your standards down to only see English Standards, or if you teach all subjects in grade 5, you can lock it down so that you only see grade 5 standards.

Click the Manage Preferences link to go to your Preferences page to edit your Standards Preferences.

As part of your service to you, we will gladly add or update any standards you require.
Simply visit the Standards Request page and fill out the form to notify us.
Visit your Preferences page if you need to limit or expand the list of standards that show up in the Standards Tree.

Write an Objective for this Lesson Plan

Objectives can be written based on what the student will be able to do (behavioral-based) or what the student will be able to know (knowledge-based) at the completion of the lesson.

Some teachers prefer to write objectives from the student's point of view, keeping the language appropriate for the students they teach (student language).

These are some examples:
Behavioral: The students will use the table of contents as a reference to locate information in a book.
Knowledge: The students will know the table of contents can be used as a reference to locate information in a book.
Student Language: I will use the table of contents to find information in a book.

If you are not using standards as a basis for your objectives, consider the desired goal for your students, break it apart into do-able tasks, and write your objectives to meet the specific goals of each individual task.

Lesson Activities and Notes are the details and information you will use to teach your objective. They can be as simple or detailed as you prefer, and can follow many formats. Lesson Activities Lesson Activities usually include: Anticipatory Set: hooking the learner, tying the need to know to real life experiences, building background, teaching vocabulary Direct instruction: what the teacher will do, tell, or model, questioning techniques, materials and resources used Guided Practice: what students will do to practice the learning, activity grouping, materials needed and spot checks for understanding Closure: review of the learning tied to prior or future lessons, group reporting Independent Practice: students working independently to show mastery, homework Assessment: formal or informal, can be a simple thumbs up exercise, exit slips, or more structured written or project assessment These components are already listed for you, but you can delete or add to them as you need. Helpful Tips for Writing Lesson Activities 1 Anything written within this block can be searched using the Lesson Plan Search. If you want to have easy access to the accommodations you are making for specific students, just list their names in your lesson plans and show what you are doing in your lessons to differentiate for their specific needs. When you need your documentation of accommodations, just search using the student's name. 2 Make sure you consider the amount of time you have to teach the lesson. Break the lesson into multiple parts if there is too much material to cover in one setting. 3 The sequence of your lesson presentation will flow easily if you include specific details of your lesson presentation in your lesson plans. 4 There are many resources available through books, Internet web sites, etc. that can help you write the lesson activities portion of your lessons. Many of the Internet resources can be found in our Lesson Plan Resources page. 5 Consider offering choice for your students when you are planning for Guided and Independent Practice. Engagement goes up when choice in activities or materials is offered. Teachers should always control the grouping, making sure students are grouped for ability and compatibility. 6 The best lessons are designed to meet students' needs according to their learning profiles (student strengths, multiple intelligences, interests, experiences, abilities, etc.) Lessons should be differentiated to meet the needs of all students, offering extension lessons to your higher students and more support to your learners who need it. The more ways you teach, the more students you reach. 7 If you are required to have specific items in your lesson plans, and you would like assistance setting up a template that has everything you need already included, just contact us and our support team members will be happy to create a template for you at no cost. 8 If you have a document you would like to use with this lesson, you can attach the document directly to your lesson plan by clicking the upload icon at the top of your lesson plan. 9 Good teachers reflect on their lessons. After you have taught your lesson, reflect on the effectiveness of your lesson looking at student mastery of independent and guided practice, and student participation, engagement, and questions. You can reflect in the same block with your lesson plan, or create an Information block below the lesson. Your reflections should include what went well, what didn't, and what you feel you would like to change.
